Why Mock Tests Matter: Turning Practice Papers into Marks

A mock test is only half the work. The marks come from what you do in the hour after it – here is how to analyse every paper.

Mock tests build exam temperament: sitting for three hours, managing time across subjects and staying calm when a question looks unfamiliar. But the real value is in the analysis afterwards.

Sort every mistake into one of three buckets

  • Concept gap – you didn't know the idea. Go back to NCERT and re-learn the topic.
  • Silly mistake – you knew it but misread the question or made a calculation slip. Slow down on similar questions.
  • Time pressure – you ran out of time or rushed. Practise that section under a timer.

Track the trend, not a single score

One bad paper means little. Compare your scores and subject-wise accuracy across the last five mocks to see whether you are actually improving – and where.
