Physics Numericals Without Fear: A Step-by-Step Method

Most Physics mistakes happen before any maths starts. Use this five-step routine to approach every numerical with confidence.

Physics feels hard when every question looks new. A fixed routine makes unfamiliar questions familiar, because you always know the next step.

The five-step routine

  1. Read the question twice and underline what is given and what is asked.
  2. Draw a quick diagram – forces, directions, circuits or rays.
  3. Write the relevant law or formula before substituting any numbers.
  4. Check units and convert everything to SI units first.
  5. Estimate whether the answer is sensible before choosing an option.

Practise this routine chapter by chapter on 15–20 questions at a time. Speed comes naturally once the steps become automatic.
